A home from home.

A Good Morning

We want you and your child to have a great start to the day and make it easy for everyone.

We open at 7.30am and our open-door policy means children can be dropped or collected at any time of day.

You’ll get a warm welcome and can tell us anything important that may affect your child’s day at nursery, for example, a bad night’s sleep.

Our Nursery is homelike, with the scale of the space especially designed not to overwhelm the children.

Children develop a sense of belonging, with their own peg and familiar space with photos of family, and they develop independence, taking their coats off and getting ready for the day.

A wholesome breakfast is served until 8.30am. Children can then play with an educator and their friends before getting ready for exploring in their outdoor adventures by 09.30am.

Nature as the Best Playground

Our children never complain about the weather! Outside adventures begin by getting ready to go outside, dressing in appropriate clothing, wellies and waterproofs or sun cream and sun hats.

Outdoor Adventures happen every day, come rain or shine.

The Adventures vary daily but cover storytelling, drama, role play, sensory activities, mini beast hunts, circle time, collecting/sorting, counting, investigating, recording, mark making, splashing in puddles, rolling in leaves, catching rain on a tarpaulin, listening, looking for worms or shelter building sessions.

Active Play

Children learn best when their whole bodies and minds are stimulated so our indoor environment is specially designed to enable active, physical play.

Through active play, children use their imaginations while developing physical and emotional strength.

We promote children’s physical development inside and out, developing their gross motor skills, through activities such as obstacle courses, building large block towers and recreating drama scenes such as ‘going on a bear hunt’ and ‘the three little pigs’.

Physical strength, co-ordination and balance are developed as the children slide, tip, spin, swing, rock, tilt, fall, jump, bounce and run with the specialist play equipment.

Children get active and interact, take risks and gain confidence and independence that will serve them through life.

Food Glorious Food

At the heart of any home is the kitchen and at KatieB our in-house nursery kitchen is a central feature.

Our award-winning food is homemade from scratch everyday, and is wholesome, incorporates organic ingredients and is always nutritious.

Our family-style mealtimes are fun, relaxed and sociable, with children encouraged to develop independence.

Breakfast, milk and healthy midmorning and late afternoon snack, a nutritious lunch, served with our popular healthy puddings, and a mid-afternoon tea - your child won’t go hungry!

We are passionate about children developing good food habits for life through regular practical cooking, baking and growing activities along with food-based learning.

Sleep and Rest

We know the importance of children getting good quality, uninterrupted sleep and so work in partnership with parents to follow your child’s usual sleep routine as closely as possible.

Our relaxing sleeping rooms, have soft cotton bedding and allow children to sleep in a calm and peaceful space without disturbance.

Throughout the nursery we have quiet, cosy spaces for our children to take time for themselves, to rest, reflect and relax.

Daytime Siblings

We offer a home from home, and bringing children of different ages together for parts of our day enhances this, like one big daytime family. A cooperative rather than a competitive environment is created when children with varied learning trajectories play together. Children have more freedom to develop their own strengths and abilities at the pace with which they are comfortable, without an expectation to match the behaviours and abilities as other same-age children. This reduces frustrations and children are more likely to be encouraged to focus on what they can do rather than what they can’t do.

When we bring children of varying ages together, we find that children who are settled and older often take on leadership roles and support those who are less capable and competent than they are, while at the same time building their own self-confidence and self-esteem. Learning to be helpful, patient, and tolerant supports the development of children’s social and emotional learning. Our younger, or less confident children benefit from being with nurturers, who provide them with models of behaviour that they can copy when they are ready. Introducing young children to early experiences of being nurturing, and of helping others who are different from themselves, forms an important part of our nursery value to go beyond childcare, preparing children for life.

Pick-Up Time

At home time you can chat with educators about your child’s day and receive an honest handover. You’ll find out what they’ve been enjoying and learning and be able to discuss anything that’s come up that day.

Our friendly team are also always happy to arrange a meeting, or chat on the phone or email.
